I'm trying to install win 7 but when ever I try I get the message that a required CD/DVD driver is missing and then the installation won't continue until I locate said driver.I have tried installing w. Windows 7 install on a clean formatted HD. And play DVD and announces I need to install a CD/DVD device driver. Of Windows 7 is a digital download.
I finally installed Windows 7 Professional. I tried all the tricks from several different forum answers / suggestions. Then I thought: 'hey, it might be a good idea to try to install an earlier version of Windows then do a full / clean install from there.' So I tried to install Windows XP Professional 32-bit. After 3 - 5 minutes the install failed, 'this installation has stopped to prevent any damage to your hardware.' I am not sure but I did get to an Automatic Problem Fix screen somewhere in my efforts. I tried this but it failed also. Anyway, I think the most direct solution would be to install an earlier version of Windows and then install Windows 7 after, since all the drivers are then loaded. I think this is what occurred when I tried to install Windows XP Professional. Install an earlier version of Windows first. Then delete partitions / format as desired when installing Windows 7. You get this error because you are installing OS from USB and the OS setup does not contain the required USB drivers. Now the question is - How to provide the drivers? When you plug-in another USB with drivers, it is not recognized because drivers are not there. You will notice that the setup does see hard drive in the system. So, you need to put those drivers on the hard drive so that you can browse them when the OS installation asks for it. Following was what I did and everything works as normal now. I had the same problem with installing the DVD it wasn't cooperating and to make matters worse my darn USB ports wasn't working for some ungodly reason,anyway if you have a program that allow you to mount it to a virtual drive like 'Poweriso' etc. Try installing from there by mounting the ISO to the virtual drive. That's what I did and it WORKED and the install was the fastest I have ever seen ultimate edition x86 sp 1 install less than 20 mins I could not believe it until it finished install and It started when I rebooted. I switched over to a USB2 port and error went away. VBGuy81 you are my hero!!! I accidently deleted my boot partition whilst repairing a friend's computer and could not fathom, this CD/DVD error! I tried everything. Ended up deleting everything and repartioning with GParted and still same error! I was just about to try to install XP as post above yours suggested, when my eye wandered to USB 3.0 and it made sense! I guess I must have known this previously and forgotten it because it felt familiar and I knew exactly which port was my 2.0!
